Lifesaver for obnoxious VW spring hose clamps Sep 10, 2010 By Sara Moore
This tool is something I wish I had known about years ago. After using pliers, a dremel, and pure frustration to remove clamps when changing out hoses in my VW, this thing is a revelation. The "precision clamp" on the end of the cable is still a bit large to fit into tight areas, but once you get it on the hose clamp, it works great. Most tools like this on the market are $100 or more, and the only other one I found that was similarly priced (a Craftsman) apparently is not as well-constructed as the Astro Pneumatic version, causing the cable to wear out. This one has worked well for me so far, and feels very solid.

One note -- to utilize the entire advertised range on clamp removal (11/16" to 2 1/2"), you *will* need to move the "cable adjuster." Mine came set at nearly the largest setting (so the 2 1/2" end of the scale). Adjusting this requires a 2.5mm hex key, so if you don't have a metric hex key set, you might want to pick one up when you buy this tool.

This tool makes removing those spring clamps on VWs and Audis very quick and safe.
Regular pliers can work but when those clamps pop you on the fingers or hand a few times as you struggle with them, you will want something safer!
I highly recommend this tool!

I wish I bought this tool 15 years ago. It makes working with spring hose clamps so effortless. I had to reach one today that would have been impossible with normal pliers. It works much better than expected and feels very solid.
