Printed out return label within 10 minutes of opening Dec 11, 2007
By B. Adams I ordered this frame as a gift for my mom for the Christmas. I planned on buying multiple memory cards and send her an updated card of pictures every month or so.
I opened it and plugged it in...
Immediate Problem 1) The screen is WIDE (16:9) which is the new thing for HDTVs, but not for photos... Unless you have a widescreen camera (who has that) or format each picture to fit the width, you have useless black bars on the side - and it looked awful.
Immediate Problem 2) The speakers were emitting a buzzing noise that did not change based upon the volume setting on the remote or the mechanical dial. It could be because it was left outside by UPS and its cold in Albuquerque, but still unacceptable.
Immediate Problem 3) The plastic frames were cheesy and wouldn't match anything in my moms house.
Immediate Problem 4) The quality of the pictures were awful. Who needs a brand new 8MP camera if you are going ot view them on here.
I bought this on a whim because of the price. But within 10 minutes of opening I printed out a return label and wrote this review. The only reason it got 2 star (instead of one) is you get what you pay for.
Do your research before you buy. Thankfully Amazon has free shipping for returns. I will be buying a different (4:3) digital frame.

Great frame, nice price, works well Dec 20, 2007
By R. Hatcher I bought one of these and liked it so much, I ordered two more as gifts.
Elsewhere on Amazon is an 8-inch version with lots of reviewers commenting on the aspect ratio, pixel size, etc. I tested my unit with photos I resampled, cropped or left untouched. They all displayed fine. Coby has either improved its algorithm, the other reviewers did not read the manual carefully, or Coby has corrected or improved the product since the reviews were posted. The reviews are worth reading, though, since there are so few here.
Just to get more photos on an SD card, I used some free photo editing software to batch resize the photos to a max width of 800. They display just as nicely as the full-sized photos. I tested various various sizes, and below 800 the quality falls off.
BTW, the unit can be switched from 9x16 to 3x4 ratio.

Great product Jan 13, 2008
By Joseph A. Goskowsky Sr. We purchased this product for my inlaws, when we received it we found that the 1 gig SD SecureDigital Flash Card that we were suppose to get by adding the product code was not in the box.
We did go and buy a card for the frame, you will want to get one. We filled it with pictures of our children and our grand kids so the my inlaws would have the pictures to brag with.
After getting the product and filling the card and sending it to the grandparents my wife and I went and got another one for us. The one we got for us had a card with it.
It is a very nice product.

Very disapointed.

Coby DP-812 Dec 19, 2007
By jp It's okay. Let me just start with that. I consider myself fairly good at doing pretty extensive research, reading all the reviews and all that, but I had a hard time picking a digital frame. The most important thing to me was price. I had a very limited budget ($100 or so). I found that unless you spend a LOT (like $200+) all the frames are pretty much mediocre at best. I was buying this for my grandparents and wanted to get them something that they could see. 6.5" frames are TINY, imagine trying to see people's faces in them when you're 90 years old. This one was decent sized (not big, but 5x7ish). The picture isn't great, but it's okay. Again, in this price range, it seems to be pretty average. It's definitely not like looking at pictures on your brand new LCD computer monitor, but it will do. I guess my point is, this will do the job but it's not perfect. The color and resolution are so-so, but at the same time, my grandparents will love it.
Bottom line, depending on who it's for, I would recommend it.
