Hudson 4 gallon commercial Jul 06, 2011
By Thomas I've been using backpack sprayers for about 30 years. This was attractive as a price point alternative, and was purchased at a local Atwoods. I returned the first one as one of the threaded wand collars was crushed and laying loose in the bottom of the box. The second lasted about 2 weeks. I inadvertantly leaned on the wand and it snapped in half. I have never had this problem with the other brands I have used over the years, as the plastic is softer and will resist pressure without breaking. The plastic on this model is very brittle. Spend a little more and go with the Solo 425/475. It also needs to be thoroughly rinsed prior to use, as there was a bunch of debris that clogged the tip. Contents had to be emptied in to another container, tank rinsed and then refilled.
I would not consider this commercial grade based on the materials used.

Good sprayer so far.... Jul 23, 2011
By J. M. Barker I bought this sprayer after having used a number of one and two gallon sprayers of various brands all of which were junk.
Having used the Hudson three times so far, I am impressed with its performance. The jury is still out on long-term durability.
Things I like:
1-Easy mixing of chemical with big top opening and filter screen to keep everything clean.
2-Pump system is awesome - 5 or 6 pumps and you're done until the pressure decreases. The time period until you need to pump again is dependent on how much chemical you are pushing out of the nozzle. All in all it is a very easy process to pump in pressure as you walk along.
3-The sprayer comes with three spray nozzles that are easily changed. Since I am doing fruit trees in addition to shorter plants, it is great to have spray heads adapted to specific tasks. The spray heads work well even though they are all plastic.
4-Carrying the sprayer tank on your back is the best, keeping your hands free with one on the spray wand and one for pressure pumping. So far I have carried just two gallons of spray and found it comfortable and easily carried.
5- The sprayer comes with a new gasket and o-ring set for the time when it first needs rebuilding.
Things open for improvement:
1- Straps could be better quality and more comfortable- they are adequate at best.
2- I would have liked to see a higher pressure capability to push chemical higher in the air for tall apple trees.
Overall this sprayer is a very good value if it lasts three or four years. Having the removeable filter screen keeps the nozzles clean and trouble-free. Debris in the spray head one of the big downfalls of most portable sprayers and a huge source of aggravation when using them. With this sprayer the aggravation is gone and a necessary task is made easy.

Hudson 4 gallon commercial Bak Pak Sprayer Review Feb 24, 2010
By Charles F. Hammel This product broke in the first 5 minutes of using it. I don't know whether it was a defective part or if the product can't stand up to normal use. This may not be indicative of the overall quality of the product but it didn't go well for the first use. I was disappointed.

not so good. Jun 29, 2011
By Colette The unit came with no written instructions - it did come with a sheet that told a few trouble shooting items and few warnings and a complete diagram with all parts listed. OK, this is not a huge problem because the unit is pretty well already assembled. What the web site does not explain (and I did not know) was that this unit sprays only if you are pumping at the same time - difficult for me and a whole lot more work than the ones that you pump up and then spray for awhile and then pump up again. Also, the spray nozzles included spray a wide and a fine mist, OK for some applications, but I bought the unit to spray my fruit trees with - the spray just does not go far enough to do this. The unit when filled with only two gallons of water is heavy and cumbersome and difficult to swing up over one shoulder so that you can get the strap over the other shoulder and the pump handle is difficult to get hold of to pump, and then actual pumping is difficult.
The unit I received was wet inside and smelled mildly of insecticide and there were small abrasions and scratches on it. Obviously a returned model.
I think it would be OK if you were walking and using it to spray field level plants and shrubs, still difficult to use though. I would not recommend the unit.
Weeds B Gone Sep 04, 2011
By Curt I've always used a one gallon pump sprayer until I had a huge job and decided to purchase this sprayer.
Pros: Great for large jobs. Comes with a variety of different nozzles. Comes with a complete replacement o-ring kit. Easy to fill and pump. Pumper handle works for right or left hand. Sprays nice and has good pressure.
Cons: the straps do tend to fall off of your shoulders once the tank starts to get low but it wouldn't stop me from using it or recommending it to someone else.
