5Just what I needed  Aug 20, 2009 By Richard Lewington
A couple of years ago, a heat wave knocked out the power on our block for 48 hours. This posed two challenges: how to keep the food in the fridge fresh and (more importantly) how to power the TV and TiVo. In the end, I hooked up a portable generator to the TV and taped the fridge shut!

After that, I did some research and bought this unit. It's just what I needed. Literally everything I needed to hook this up next to the breaker box was provided and once I'd read the (slightly confusing) instructions a couple of times I had it installed and tested in about an hour.

The power meters are a really good feature. My generator isn't nearly big enough to power the whole house, so the meters allow me to gradually turn on individual circuits without overloading the generator.

Of course, we haven't had an outage longer than ten minutes since, but it's reassuring to know I'm ready when it does happen again.

5Awesome Product  Nov 05, 2010 By Parent
I bought a 5000 watt generator and then picked up one of these. Though it is a bit pricey, it is well worth the cost. Installing is very easy. I recommend watching the videos first - they can be found on the company web page.
The end result is you have greater control on how your generator powers your house.
If you are thinking of running extension cords to appliances in the house in an emergency - do this instead. Once it is installed - just get the generator running - plug it into the transfer switch and turn on the six breakers to power whichever parts of the house you choose during the install.

5Great product.  Sep 13, 2011 By CF from warren,MI
I bought a generator a few years ago and found it was a pain to run extension cord to everything. Try pulling out refrigerators and freezers. Plus you have to leave a door or window open for cords. Wired this into my main electrical panel in about 1.5 to 2 hours. The only extra thing I had to buy was wire to go between the new transfer switch and the inlet box which I mounted on the back of my house.I Bought the one that came with the encloser for remote recepticle but you can mount the recepticle on the transfer panel if you want. All you have to do is plug the cord from the generator into the inlet box, start the generator and switch the breakers on to the circuits you have connected. No running cords! This is a must have.

Great product, great price. Said open box, but was brand new. Came with everything required to hook up. Good Deal.
